Physical Health: Love Your Body


How do you define physical health? A few years ago, if I were to answer this question, my mind would have to go right to what seems like a perfect body based on supermodels beach bodies. Today, I know better. Physical health is taking care of, nurture and respect your body. The truth is you just need to love your body.

Many times we disconnect from our body. Sometimes we don’t understand it. Others we don’t even want it and feel like it has failed us. I have been there. Long story short, I felt ugly and out of place when growing up, didn’t understand why my body was the way it is, disconnect from it when I thought it failed me during and after my pregnancies. In reality, I was the one failing. But, if you don’t know, fail is the first attempt in learning. Here what I have learned:

Workout because you care and love your body, not because you hate it.

So true! Working out is not about hating your abs but care for your body. I don’t work out because I hate my legs or abs. I workout because I want them to be strong and healthy. You care for what you love, right? So, I care for and love my body, and for that reason, I workout.

There is no room for jealousy but inspiration.

Jealousy is a negative emotion that prevents us from seeing the good and uniqueness within us. So, how about getting inspired by others instead? Let me explain what I mean. For example, if I see a girl walking down the street with beautiful and shiny hair, I don’t get jealous and feel bad about mine. Instead, I get inspired to take care of mine to be its own version of healthy hair.

Your body is awesome.

The body is a fascinating mystery yet to be discovered. My auntie once told me, “you don’t know how strong you are, until being strong is the only option you have.” We don’t know what our body is capable of until it has to be. Love and take care of it, and it will love and take care of you. As simple as that.

Physical health is easier to say than do it. I know that. However, everything in life is a decision. It starts with the decisions you make. Choose to love your body, and everything else will fall right in the place it should be.
